Juneteenth: Dave Granland PoliticalCartoons.com

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It is also often observed for celebrating African American culture. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1866.

Juneteenth is also a day to learn about Black and American history and culture, reflect on how far we have come, and consider what we can do to continue to promote freedom, equality, and opportunity.

Looking for ways to celebrate Juneteenth? There are events across California and you can check your local papers for more information. A network of African American History Museums, including the California African American Museum in Los Angeles, has released a film called Juneteenth: Lift Every Voice. Juneteenth Virtual Program
