Viva la Fiesta! Santa Barbara’s 103rd Celebration Returns!

¡Viva la Fiesta! Santa Barbara’s 103rd Annual Celebration Returns August 5–9, 2026

The spirit of Santa Barbara’s rich history, culture, and heritage is coming alive for five vibrant days. The 103rd Old Spanish Days Fiesta officially kicks off on Wednesday, August 5th, bringing the community together through music, dance, pageantry, and time-honored traditions that honor our region’s Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and early American roots.

Festival Highlights & Flagship Events

  • La Fiesta Pequeña (Wednesday, Aug. 5, 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM): Set against the stunning backdrop of the Old Mission Santa Barbara, this free opening-night program features traditional songs and dances from the Californios Spirit.
  • Super-Sized El Mercado De La Guerra (Wednesday, Aug. 5 – Saturday, Aug. 8): Stroll through a colorful open-air market at De La Guerra Plaza. This year’s mercado is expanding its footprint up and down State Street (between Ortega and Canon Perdido streets), offering authentic foods, local crafts, and lively entertainment.
  • Noches de Ronda (Thursday, Aug. 6 – Saturday, Aug. 8, 8:00 PM): Experience breathtaking Spanish classical, flamenco, and Mexican folklorico dancing under the stars in the historic Sunken Gardens of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.
  • El Desfile Histórico – The Historical Parade (Friday, Aug. 7, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM): See below for details on one of the festival’s most iconic attractions!
  • El Desfile de los Niños – Children’s Parade (Saturday, Aug. 8, 10:00 AM): A charming community favorite where local youth and families don traditional costumes to march along the route.

The Main Event: El Desfile Histórico (The Historical Parade)

One of the absolute crown jewels of Old Spanish Days is El Desfile Histórico, scheduled for Friday, August 7th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM along Cabrillo Boulevard.

  • A Massive Equestrian Showcase: Recognized as one of the largest and most prestigious horse parades in the United States, the parade features over 600 magnificent horses.
  • Living History: The procession showcases stunning antique carriages, coaches, and covered wagons. Descendants of local Native Americans, Spanish pioneers, historical reenactors, and community service groups bring the past to life with authentic period costumes and floats depicting pivotal episodes in California and Santa Barbara history.
  • Route & Viewing Info: The parade route runs along Cabrillo Boulevard from Castillo Street to Calle Cesar Chavez (ending near the Cabrillo Pavilion). Spectators can line the boulevard to watch, and ticketed, shaded seating options are available for those looking for guaranteed comfort.
