The Best Advice to Make the Most of Moving With Your Family

Moving can be a challenging prospect, especially when you have children involved. Here are a few tips to make the entire process easier for everyone.

Buying a family home

Begin by creating a budget to eliminate houses outside your price range. You can use a prequalification calculator to help determine how much you can likely afford.  Once you have the numbers, consider getting pre-approved and research the best prices in your area. Santa Barbara is a competitive market, with the average sales price for homes in Montecito, CA, totaling $2.77M.  You want to find the best value in your price range that meets your needs and desires. Look at prospects with your kids in mind. Parents point out that sometimes young families make mistakes they regret when selecting a home due to the reality of raising kids. For instance, a house may be attractive to you, but if it’s built on a particularly steep incline or busy street, your children may not be able to play outside. Selling a family home

When staging your home for sale, you want to present it in a manner that will appeal to a broad range of potential buyers.  A property that is terrific for raising kids is a draw, but you don’t want the entire home to focus on that aspect. U.S. News & World Report suggests keeping an adult-oriented atmosphere in at least some rooms, such as the office area, master bedroom, and main living area.  You can maintain a more family-friendly theme in the kitchen, the kids’ rooms, and bonus rooms. Just make sure those areas are uncluttered and keep toys to a minimum.

When you make the decision to move, you should keep your children in the loop.  Some experts warn you may be met with anger or sadness. Have an open and ongoing discussion and let your children ask you questions about the move and the new house.  They may need to voice concerns and very young children may not understand the concept of moving. You can ease some anxiety by having the kids help with packing. Giving them ownership in the process helps them understand more and feel they are part of things.
